Hello guys

Some of you guys may have tried BTY Resilon in the past as I have
and I must say that was one rubbers they should have never taken out of
the market for whatever reason. I am a penholder using BTY Sardius with
2.1mm Speedy P.O..

Here are the characteristics of BTY Resilon (not Kawa) 2.1mm - at least for me:

- Explosive smash, especially reglued, easiness to hit underspin generating backspin back to the opponent, thus making him to lift the ball
always;
- Ability to generate good and controlled top spin giving an unpredictable off-time bounce on the other side of the table;
- Easy blocking of opponents' smashes and top spins with a slight jerking
motions;
- Ability to produce heavy short spinny serves right behind the net;
- No matter how you return your shots, the ball trajectory is always low with backspin. Resilon doesnt wabble that much, but it is notorious for being excellent ball controller with power.

BUT they dont make it anymore :(

I've tried so many short pips out there after the decease of Resilon like
many of you have and my question is for those Resilon-hooked enthusiasts:

Is there any short pips in the market that plays like it or at least close to it ?

Thank in advance :)
Sardius

A few places may still have sheets of Resilon in stock. Maybe try http://www.spintechnologies.com/butterflyrubbers.html as they say they have 1 sheet left of red 1.9 or maybe some other sites have it.

I used to use 2.0-2.2 short pips but I now prefer 1.8 sponge and have better control as a rsult, especially blocking with no loss of speed.

Got also an old Resilon. Almost thrown into bin.

Quite similar to Challenger SP.

Neither spinny or bouncy. Surpassed by many new SP rubbers nowadays.

I thought RITC 802-40, Stiga Royale, JTU, TSP Spinpips are better.

Just my opinion.

May be my Resilon is too old - 15 years to have aged too much.

Is there a PH Sardius, or you play PH style with a Handshake Sardius. I am not aware of either.

I also got an old Sardius handshake of 15 years of age. It is good and quality may be better than newer Sardius.

Never thought of playing it as PH. It is too heavy for PH or risk to break/injure your wrist with two rubbers on.

Single sided penholders tend to prefer heavy blades, often 90-100 grams and sometimes more especially when playing with short pips which tend to be lighter than inverted sheets of rubber. Most of the old-style Chinese penholders I know say that most modern blades are too light for single sided play.

I use a Butterfly Mazunov cut down for penhold play, I assume he does the same with his Sardius. The Mazunov is 96 grams, works well with no sponge short pips or single sided play. David Zhaung (top US male penholder) used pips on one side (first Resilon, then Rein) and inverted on the other. Gao Jun, top US female penholder uses a similarly cut down Matsushita blade with Challanger pips on one side.

Resilon was good for flat hitting through spin and blocking, not really a spinny short pip. If you wanted that, you should look elsewhere. Very different from the spinny short pips like Joola Tango Ultra/802-40.

I don't think there is a Penhold Sardius, at least not here in North America.
I've overheard someone say that you might find a penhold version of
Sardius in Asia...Not sure. And it is true, the old Sardius, for whatever
reason, plays and feels much better than the newer ones. The Sardius
is considered to be a light blade, can't remember its weight but I am
sure you can find it by googling.

Funny how you mentioned googling... I googled for a few things recently looking for things discussed in this forum. I was pleased to get some results, only to discover all the serach results pointed to the posts in this forum :lol:

http://www.butterflyonline.com has the Sardius as weighing 90 grams. Not really very light except compared to some Chinese blades.

If you want something that produces fast and flat balls and blocks well you might try Galaxy Pluto. I've been using it and it is a less spinny pip that produces very fast flat hits and is easy to control blocking.

I usually use a very soft 1.8 sponge but the 1.3 mm sponge Alex has here seems fast enough and blocks and flips much better. I can also serve very short balls when I want to and I have very good control.

Maybe he'll get some thicker sponges (like 1.5-1.8) soon...
