Hi folks,

I'm looking to use short pimples for the first time and bearing in mind the cost factor, I thought the Friendship rubbers would be a good introduction.

Has anyone out there used both 802 and 802-40 and how do they compare with regard to

spin, speed, control and in particular the ability to create and lift backspin.

I tend to play close to the table and I'm comfortable with soft sponges.

Thank you for any input.

802 is arguably *the* classic Chinese SP. It's fast enough for anyone's need, and has ribbed pimples which are good for generating spin when needed, either offensively or defensively. The standard orange sponge is fairly firm,

802-40 is typically bought with a soft (H35) sponge. It's quite a bit spinnier, and almost plays like an inverted rubber. In that respect it's a very good introduction to SP for inverted users.

Personally I prefer 802.

Identical. That is a function of your skill at placing and controlling the ball.
