you know I didnt read any of the previous posts before me but your first post.

Okay how I see it your trainer thinks like me...
Wrists should always remain steady/locked or cocked, movement comes from my knees, my body but more emphasis on elbow and shoulder rotations.
Wrists is good when playing on table or close to the net.

Instead of as swan-neck I have heard it describe as ducky-paddle, too... It is a good way to "force" yourself to meet the ball with an open blade, making solid contact, kinda bang-on :wink: . But you don't want to use too much wrist in actually hitting the ball (transferring the movement of the arm to the ball), except when you have to lift (against backspin, or when flipping).
