I haven't started to use my shortpips yet, but out of curiosity I wonder what you consider to be the most gratifying stroke, for example against a looper or topsinner? Or your favourite stroke, full stop.

A brief explanation of why would be interesting to hear :)

Theree are four shots I love to make with spinny short pips.

I have a very deceptively spinny slow loop off my backhand that I hit down the line. It is very low low over the net and it lands short, and after the bounce as the ball goes over the back of the table (barely) it dies. Opponents, even very good players, tend to have a very hard time seeing the trajectory/spin correctly, pop the next shot too high and I attack with my forehand. I use this shot sometimes when people push a serve return to my backhand side and it lands long. It is probably my best shot because it is not something I have seen other people do. I have found that even really good players don't have an answer to that shot, but after I have won a few points with it, they take notice and stop giving me opportunities to use it. It is not a difficult shot to make with a little practice.

I also like to hit right through loops to my backhand, so much so that I have to remember to be sure to vary the speed. It is tempting to hit and block everything really hard with short pips because you can, but it makes you too predictable, even if it is really satisfying to feel the whack as you do it.

Short pips are amazing for flipping /rolling returns of serve in a way that is pretty much impossible with inverted.

finally, I occasionally throw a heavy underspin serve off the short pips. I make sure the opponents can see that I am using the short pips side for the serve. Raystorm can generate a hellacious amount of spin. But for some reason it just doesn't look that spinny to the opponent so they dump it in the net. I think the trajectory of the ball is just enough different from inverted that it looks less spinny. It is my 9-all serve. I don't use it too much because obviously the opponent can adjust easily enough.

Yep, my favorite two as well -- also the same problem with whacking the looped ball, while it's easy, it allows someone some rhythm if not angled nicely. :?

I use hard pips, soft sponge (802-40), so the whacking sensation feels great, really.

I definitely agree with Baal and Yuzuki. Hitting through loops - if I get it right!

Also blocking fast drives or aggressive loops straight back into your opponents pocket or to wide angles. They do all the energetic work and are sweating away whilst you stand up to the table and return the ball with very little physical effort. Deep joy.

I like whacking a spinny serve or push right by my opponent.
I also like punching a backhand into their belly.
Blocking a spinny loop right past them is fun.

Finally, with my less spinny pips I like continuing the spin so I can keep their sidespin going, usually wide away from them out of reach.

1. A fast BH punch to the deep corners of an opponent's topspin drive.
2. A FH off-the-bounce hit off a push that just clears the net and goes in very low into his body

Never thought that I'd see the day I am able to whack a slow, spinny topspin off a push -- ball skipping the table, with reversal using thick 802-40. Oh my, what a day today. :drunken:

It's just one of those lucky moments with near perfect contact, I guess -- that is going to be one of my most gratifying strokes for the month...

Forehand flat smash, with fade, down the line! OK, so the opponent notices I'm flat-hitting their high returns with my forehand, so they adjust and start getting their shots just over the net. Fine. They make a nice safe shot that just clears the net. Or is it safe? It bounces on my side, reaches the top of the bounce, I flat hit it and it whizzes just over the net, maybe touching it a bit, then it fades then skids off the end of the table, just out of their reach. I love this shot so much that my crosscourt hit is suffering from neglect.

I did one on Saturday with my Juic Offense Ultima 2.0mm. I was playing casually with Mars63 and he sent a shot with super-heavy underspin to my back hand, and I flat-hit it with a beautiful RPB that caught him totally off guard because he wasn't expecting it to come back! It was a one-in-a-million shot, so the feeling was like getting a hole-in-one!

I also like smashing back underspin returns with the 802-40. Have done it several times and the feeling is just the best! :D It just a very low and fast return that most opponents don't expect.

I love playing guys that love to rally, most of the time they dont know whats happening, paired up with long pimple on my backhand. It really messes them up even the better players as they seldom play this sort of style.
I love to hit winners, and the more spin on the ball the better. Forcing him back off the table to lob, you know he doesnt have a chance to win the point.
