Just noticed that Tang Peng actually now has higher world ranking than Tan.

Tang from HK team will participate more the ITTF open to gain more marks. But, Tan mainly focuses on DTTL and ECL and will participate the big tourment such WTTC and Olympic Game. So, Tang will be ranked higher than Tan. But, it does not mean that Tang must win Tan.

Actually, Tang was the champion of Chinese National Championship in the past and the main member in Chinese National Team.

Even though I play in this style, and it made me much better when I switched a number of years ago, I think that for top men players these days -- at the levels of the top 200 or so in the world -- one gives up too much offense by using short pips on a shakehand BH, and it is not at all suited for defense. Top men have too much power and too good timing to really be bothered by it. They can just blast through it. I really think that Tan for certain is covering even more serious weaknesses by using SP. Tang on the other hand is as as close as I have seen to Wang Tao since Wang Tao.

Totally different situation for women. The style can lead to considerable success there. Still, I would be curious to know if there is anyone one on the current Chinese women's national team who plays that way for any purpose other than to give their best players a training partner to prepare for facing people like Dang Yeseo?
