Those who have read my postings under "The new pip players journal" will know that I now experimenting with SP on FH, and LP on BH (Bat 2 in my signature text).

This raises a couple of questions.

1. Which rubber is likely to generate more spin for serving? In particular, I am thinking about sidespin tomahawk serves and/or pendulum BS/SS or TS/SS serves. I ask my partners but so far have not had any conclusive response.

2. Reading A Gooding's posting on short pips use, I note that SPs are good for adding to spin, rather than creating spin. I would thus think that for a medium TS return, I would be better using the LPs? (I'm assuming I won't be able to generate a heavy TS return with either rubber).

Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.

For spin you need grip. SPs generally have more grip than LPs (more contact area), so you'll get more spin with SPs. SPs like 802-40 are very grippy and with a asoft sponge, so you should be able to get good spin with these.

Haggisv - I like those KISS (keep it simple) answers :) Question is though, with the rubbers I'm presently using, I wonder which one has more effective grip?
