hookshot.. doing topspin from pendulum is easy indeed.. it's the topspin with reserve pendulum that we find is trickier! especially if you don't wanna show that you're doing a top.

the way i (try to) do it, is hit the ball at the end of the wrist movement.. where the wrist is completely flexed at the beginning and at the end, the wrist is completely extended.

so you have to go thru the same motions of the backspin stroke but only contact the ball at the last moment where there wrist is extending and the bat is going up.

i'm not sure how you can hit the top half of the ball using a reverse pendulum motion.. i'm having a hard time visualizing! :(

Priior,
You are right. If I said from reverse, It is a mistake. I can get the top half of the ball from "pendulum", not reverse. :D

I was practicing this serve last night... easiest way i can get topspin is to hit the ball near the middle and on the side in an upwards direction, at the final stage of the reverse swing... I can diguise is best by either contacting near the bottom left in slightly downwards direction, or near bottom right in a more upwards direction... needs to practice though... but well worth it

I find it ......very difficult to understand this topic without watching video !!

Ummmm...I don't have any problem with top or bottom. I find that top work best and easier to disguise, easier to make it looks like under but it is top.
Can't do underspin that looks like top

Haggisv: I don't use reverse much coz I can't disguise it well enough(watch my video and you'll see that it obvious) to get free points also I want the ball returned to my LP side.

Cheers BH!

We're talking about the reverse Pendulum serve here, right?

If you find it easy, can you tell where (on the ball) you make contact?

From your vid it looked like you were making contact at the back of the ball and upwards... it's a bit hard to see on vid since there are too few frames...

I tend to vary between no backspin and heavy backspin, and can disguise this reasonably well... would be nice to add more variation to it...

I actually prefer to received the ball to my FH, so I can loop the next one...

Remember, guys, hiding the contact point (on both ball and bat) isn't the only deceit - exaggerated bluff follow throughs and 'false starts' add to the service deception.

If you want any of this explaining, ask and i'll put it in my tips thing.

Oh, and, who can do Schlagers serve? Schalger...
