who serves like schlager? for me ive made the dramatic switch from bh service to fh service. so instead of having a 90% bh serve, its now 60% fh 40% bh with my service. and guys it has helped...ALOT!
ppl who usually beat me now r bewildered, casue i place alot of deception in the fh serve, no spin and backspin particualry, and also the speed service at times. i guess schlager training video helped out.

I watched the video quite comprehensively awhile back. I could imitate almost all of them but without the same quality spin. The only problem I'm still having is the reverse pendulum which is driving me nuts as I can't control it when I'm serving sideback/sidetop.

When I first learned proper serves, I learned them from the schlager training video. However I ended up doing them pretty differently, probably because of the chinese rubbers I was using.

I also recommend viewing the Kong Linghui training video for more serves.

That is exactly my problem! It is already an effective serve and it's not that common... but I struggle getting topspin... back/side and pure side is OK...

Haven't see the vid... was it on DVD?

For the reverse pendulum, Pure side is quite easy to do. Side top is also easy.

When it comes to Side/back that is the bloody hardest serve I've come across. You have to be so conscious of every little movement in order to nail it. There are periods when I can do it easily and periods I couldn't do it to save my life.

thats weird.. i have no trouble doing side/back or even corkscrew.. it's pure top that i have trouble with... the timing of hitting the ball on the upswing is messing me up!

I have to agree with priior side back is easy to do also side top is quite easy to but i find it a lot harder, im working more on improving my backhand serve.

I think it's easier to think bout hitting the ball at a different contact point then thinking about what spin you put on... still I struggle with the top myself though... I need to practice more too...

According to Greg's guide (at about.com) on the reververse pendulum, contact needs to be made on the side and slightly on top... from looking at the pics though (side view) the bat at contact point seems to be on the bottom half of the ball, so i guess the bat must be in an upwards direction at contact to get topspin... Hopefully the mention of Greg's name is enough to make him magically appear... works most times

You can get topspin with any serve with different contact points. If you want a fast topspin ball, contact is on the top half of the ball. If you want a double bounce topspin ball, contact is on the bottom of the ball pulling up and back. I can do topspin, double bounce serves from pendulum and backhand. Topspin combined with side is eaiser than just top. :D

hookshot.. doing topspin from pendulum is easy indeed.. it's the topspin with reserve pendulum that we find is trickier! especially if you don't wanna show that you're doing a top.

the way i (try to) do it, is hit the ball at the end of the wrist movement.. where the wrist is completely flexed at the beginning and at the end, the wrist is completely extended.

so you have to go thru the same motions of the backspin stroke but only contact the ball at the last moment where there wrist is extending and the bat is going up.

i'm not sure how you can hit the top half of the ball using a reverse pendulum motion.. i'm having a hard time visualizing! :(
