I'm always wary of choosing to target a lefties backhand, as, more often than not, there footwork across in that direction (forehand -> backhand) is better than the opposite, through years of drilling etc., with right-handers.

Unless that lefty is me Sam. In my case I have a really strong forehand and everyone's backhand just gets great practicing with me. My backhand made it impossible to even carry on the repitition of fh to my bh. Consequently I lulled all my righty friends forehands into a deep dark sleep. My evil plan is almost complete!

I love playing the lefties. My BH becomes more effective, unless I am playing a 2000 player. Players rated hundreds of points higher carry that superior rating for a good reason.

Thanks, Speedplay - I wasn't sure if I'd interpreted his post correctly, either.

Just to clarify - my point is that lefties often have good footwork from left to right, which is the same direction that righties have good footwork, but obviously in a righthanders case this means:

moving from Backhand to Forehand

Whilst in a lefties case:

moving from forehand to backhand

I don't mean in the respect that they play better backhands than forehands, but that in the respect that their forehand is often better when they're moving away from their forehand wing.

On a similar note - tactics :

One thing that I have learned is that if someone says to you 'play to his backhand, it's weak' it's useless advice. Most people are weak in some wing, but only on the switch ball. My backhand stands up to most in bh->bh rallies, but if someones plays a couple down my fh then switches to my bh, it's a lot weaker.

I am guessing that none of you have played two leftys in doubles. My partner and I are leftys and we raise H%&^&^* in doubles.
When receiving serve, I stand outside the sideline ready to do a forhand loop, kill or drop shot. This leaves my partner in perfect position.
When I serve, I can stand outside the sideline not blocking my partner so he is in perfect position.

Agree. That's probably the best assets of being a lefty in TT.
I like to play double but too bad....no one here like to play double.
