Do you think a right handed LP player has a advantage over a left handed looper. Considering most of his loops will go to a LP players BH.

As a left handed chopper, I must say it does have it's advantages 8) I find that a smart right-handed player can often get points by playing some shots to my wide-forehand. Many lefties tend to stand a little to much towards the backhand side because we really want to get in that forehand loop.

I used to have a lefty training mate. I found him refreshing to play against. The game feels different, and requires strategy adjustments. I don't feel they have significant advantage over righties. Maybe it's because I could adjust to his "rythm".

we got a leftie at our club, he classes hiself as a defender and he is lethal at doubles. I had to take him on in the doubles semis last weekend and the way he plays doubles is low and soo effective. me and my partner were putting shots to the right of the table, so usally when they get low like they did, a right hander would have so much problems getting from one side to the other then puttign it in the place they want. This lefty managed to pick up this ball so many times, and invited my to smash the ball, but while he pick it up, he choped it, i didnt notice...

dam you lefties

I mostly do reverse serves against lefties, towards their backhand.

The worst problem I have against lefties are serves. All of my serves are made up to get a rightie in trouble and they really don't work that great against a leftie. I say again, ban them! Let them form their own league

i agree, lefties are great to play with, most people at our club finds it hard to play with a lefty, but i love it

this lefty dfender serves are easy to get back, but only at doubles, he has such a great serve in singles, but he told me he has to be consertive for serves in doubles, caus his serves he finds hard to get them in teh right place, and he doesnt have a good backhand serve

also the leefty put badmitiuon handle tape on his blade for a bigger grip, no wonder hes good, shame he lost he doubles final in 5

I'm always wary of choosing to target a lefties backhand, as, more often than not, there footwork across in that direction (forehand -> backhand) is better than the opposite, through years of drilling etc., with right-handers.

Unless that lefty is me Sam. In my case I have a really strong forehand and everyone's backhand just gets great practicing with me. My backhand made it impossible to even carry on the repitition of fh to my bh. Consequently I lulled all my righty friends forehands into a deep dark sleep. My evil plan is almost complete!

I love playing the lefties. My BH becomes more effective, unless I am playing a 2000 player. Players rated hundreds of points higher carry that superior rating for a good reason.

Thanks, Speedplay - I wasn't sure if I'd interpreted his post correctly, either.

Just to clarify - my point is that lefties often have good footwork from left to right, which is the same direction that righties have good footwork, but obviously in a righthanders case this means:

moving from Backhand to Forehand

Whilst in a lefties case:

moving from forehand to backhand

I don't mean in the respect that they play better backhands than forehands, but that in the respect that their forehand is often better when they're moving away from their forehand wing.

On a similar note - tactics :

One thing that I have learned is that if someone says to you 'play to his backhand, it's weak' it's useless advice. Most people are weak in some wing, but only on the switch ball. My backhand stands up to most in bh->bh rallies, but if someones plays a couple down my fh then switches to my bh, it's a lot weaker.

I might start a general tactics thread in Hints and Tips. :)
