Hello, there's always fuss with serves; which can produce more spin, which is better if your an agressive player and etc.

So ive made this serve compatability topic which tells you which serves to do, which shots to get ready for, and which type of game play suits you.

1. FH Serve off the Left Side corner.

If you have a strong FH loop this serve is for you, the exellent positioning opportunity should be used to the max, standing on the left corner means that as soon as the return comes your very ready for your forehand. If you watch the top players during their game you will see the forehand serve and immediately after they jump about 45 degrees facing the corner from where they served ready for a forehand. This serve is most used by agreesive players.

2. FH Serve off the Right Side corner.

This serve is most used when your opponent has a weak backhand loop, you serve long from the right hand corner giving a 70% chance that the opposition will loop then after the serve best thing to do would be to jump back somewhere in the middle of the table and when the weak loop comes feel free to finish the point off.

3. BH Serve Middle Table.

This serve is the key to defensive game play, it allows you to trick the opposition without leaving your key position and also lets you have a chance to do a rare attacking shot with your FH if you did a side spin serve. The key with this serve is to alternate spins because it is fairly easy to guess which spin is next.

4. BH Serve FH side of table.

This serve is very rarely used and its main idea is to change the pace.

WARNING: Most common return is a winner down the back hand side so immediately after the serve it is a reasonable idea to take a step back.

This is it so far.
If anyone has anything to add feel free to tell me.

i'm not sure i agree with 2. if i understand correctly... it;s a FH serve from the FH side of the table.. down the line to the opponent's BH?

what if the return is a short push to your BH side, then a long flick to ur FH?

I think it really wants to be dominated by your stronger wing and what kind of returns one can expect from what kind of serves.

I do a high toss pendulum from my backhand corner, into:

Half-long forehand
half-long middle
half-long backhand
long cross-over
long backhand

If I find I'm getting read too easily, I might move either where I serve from by about 6 inches, or where the serve lands by 6 inches.

It sounds small but it makes a massive difference.

same here.. i only serve from my backhand corner.. maybe once in a blue moon ill serve a BH top/side off the opponent's FH side but it's more show-off than anything.. :)
