Im over 50 and play about 3 days a week and do some jnr coaching 2 days a week.
and I have probly had done about 3 months of coaching in 35 years, but now I have a older chinese man who volunteers to help me, I often use my robot about 2 hours a week but I find it a bit booring anyhow this Chinese man starts to comming to me and starts doing fast forehand drill for me but also he moves the ball wide or at my body and just love the extra challenge he makes me do, he's a great blocker but realy punches it back fast and low so I realy have to move quickly.
I have always had a habit of either gliding a wide ball back or try and smash it but those two shots cannot work in most situations so now he's making me play a full forehand loop/drive then I come back quickly as he wont hit it there if Im already wide lol and if I guess right next time and get a good return he just punches it down my backhand side

I can handle the pressure for about 30 mins, but I feel funny doing such drills when I never did them before

Yep, doesn't mater what your age is, coaching always helps. So continue these drills and you're most likely to improve. :)

I respect 'active' coaches more than ones that give instructions all day posing in their tracksuits

I have coached many years but after China, I am using the system they used on me. My best student is an athelet and a runner. He loves my coaching. Says I give him a super workout. He loves multiball. The harder I make it, the better. Thats why he is getting so good so fast.
In China, my coach did not believe my age, had to show him my drivers license. LOL.
Also, being a good feeder for multiball is a very good way to improve touch and control. :)

I forgot I even posted this a year ago, well anyway that was about it , he never ever came back since then , but as an aerobic exercise it was very good , not all people like being stretched that bit extra

I enjoy any chance to get coaching. The key to being a successful student is to forget your age. It can be tough when you're a 'stick in the mud' older player, and it really helps watching how younger players absorb things without too much resistance. For the older player it often helps to try and tap into the 'child' within. As the Borg would say, 'Resistance is futile.'

Never saw the Chinese system, but I would wager teh Korean system has many similarities.

You wouldn't think some O40 washed up LP defender would put much of a dent into your fitness, but I pity the fool who has that attitude. All the coaches here can wear your tail out in a hurry. I get 20 minute lessons, but they usually get stretched to 30 minutes each session. Easily, my TT lessons are very physically demanding. I would certainly say that that I work out 5x harder doing this than in Army physical training. TT training here is indeed a whole body workout, this is coming from a 40s dude who started training in his early 40s. I can only say I do "light" training as the true TT athletes here do 6 hours a day minimum.

I can tell you all for sure, my game got much better after doing these lessons. I moved up 2 full divisions in under 2 years and hope to move up another by the end of the summer. Korea doesn't have A1, A2, A3, etc, just 1,2,3,4,5,hope div.

I think that's great! You're never too old to learn, or to improve!
