Hi everyone. I've found some posts about playing against a fisher (that's the name of the style), but I've not found any suggestion to play as a fisher. I mean: how to serve, what to do if your opponent is cutting and not looping, what to do if your opponent is blocking short your strokes, and so on. Any suggestion would be great!
Thank you

If you've got the beating of them, great. But if they start to get to grips with your style, I think you could cause a few problems by mixing it up, if possible. For example,

Try some heavier spun loops or quick 3rd ball attacks every now and then. I played against a fisher recently and was comfortable with his style until he threw in a few unexpected shots, and he ended up beating me! :/

You explained yourself just fine, and got some advice from 8DTRGinrayz above:

Also he indicates the same in the general advice above that: Essentially, that you should not be too predictable (which is an easy trap to fall in when mainly playing from a distance).

Precisely. I think as a fisher it is important to mix things up as opposed to doing so when playing against someone with that style :-)

At the top end perhaps look at players like Appelgren and Maze. Roughly speaking you want to keep the ball deep in the court using topspin. Being able to lob well is essential. Remember though, you still need to be able to attack to keep pressure on your opponent. If you can't attack your opponent will simply take his time and have no trouble hitting you off.

Its quite a fun way to play but also I dont think its as effective as chopping. Then again I managed to beat a vic 1500 level player mostly lobbing this year, probably the best I've every played. I kept playing these awesome rallies and turned to see if carbonman was watching but everytime he was talking to someone facing the other way. So I had to play more awesome rallies, over and over again. I don't think in the end he saw any of the match but just not wanting to disappoint him got me over the line :p

The guy I was playing was a jpen Chinese guy in his late 50s I would say so didn't have enormous finishing power. Plus the courts were large and bright lights so everything was conductive for some fishing. Where I normally play doesn't have the room or bright enough lights to do that as well so you still need to be able to play offensive at the table when conditions are not as good.

Ps.sometimes a degensive player with good touch will drop balls the retrive in short to.your backhand. In that case you have to be very fast to come in and loop drive for a winner, that usually works very well but you have to be super fast running forward.
