I suspect that you're going for it more and putting your body into it on your BH side because you don't have a table in front of you.

Hi Speedplay...
Are you perhaps standing past the endline around the edge of the table a bit...Ie closer to the net and hitting the ball at a higher part of the bounce, making the shot more certain, and also you would be standing left foot forward which was the old fashioned stance for making a forehand hit.

Just a thought, as that is how I hit my best shots to the off forehand ie left to right as I face the table...not the normal right to left.

That is a shot I should try and incorporate more, but trouble is if I don't put it away there is a lot of table left unguarded...well there is for me, as I am a bit slow getting back to where I should be to cover it...

In training forehand diagonal (right to left), the key is (IMO) rotation of the upper body. try and keep your arm completely still, and let the shoulders do the work (for training purposes. Eventually you'll want to develop a forehand that uses body rotation and arm movement at the same time). This will improve consistency and power.

I actually have the same experience: hitting forehand from the backhand side is stronger than regular forehand. It's the same in tennis: the inside-out forehand wins a lot of points!

there are two ways i think to do this properly..

one is u rotate your body and do the same movement as any other topspinloop... the other u angle your wrist at the last minute (and u get a sidespin shot that sidespins away from the table) and still do your topspin stroke...

at least that's what i've been told to do.. the sidespin thing is level 2 tho :) u start with the first method first.

I think the tips here are fairly similar descriptions of the same technique. The only thing I would add which is probably similar to what priior has said, but roll your wrist and bend it in at the last second into the shot. It brings the ball down and turns it to the diagonal direction. Obviously need to practice it to get what works for you, and height of the ball requires adjustments to it as well (in terms of pace and body/arm/wrist movement). And keep your eye on the ball with your peripheral looking to the table where you want it to go. I'd say your better mistakes to make here are the ones that hit near the tip of the net, which means you are getting the ball down enough. If you are flying the ball over the table, you need to roll the wrist further (or improve your positioning to take the ball at the beginning).

Hope it all helps and works for you.
