Hello, I am currently a player who is a lp user at the bh with a pushing/chopping forehand close to the table and at high school.
Right now, I want to change to the offensive style, and start hitting. Question is, should I change to sp or inverted on my backhand? What are the pros and cons of each.
What training should I do to continue improving and how often should I practice?
I know this won't be an easy adjustment but can you please help me? thanks

I can't really help you ALL that much, but I will tell you the general differences between inverted and short pips.

Inverted: Spinny, good at hitting AND looping. Generally going to make a spinnier serve than short pips.

Short pips: Not quite as spinny (but more so that long pips!), so it's a little less spin sensitive. These tend to be specialized hitting rubbers. It's not IMPOSSIBLE to loop with them, but loops won't be as spinny.

From what I've read, sort pips also have a different "feel" to them.

I hope someone with more knowledge comes along.

Normally I would say go with inverted, but either one will do. Maybe SP might be easier at first coming off of LP.

It'll be so different, you may as well go straight to inverted.

Just be ready to accept that you'll struggle with it for some period of time - especially serve returns.

Hi,
difficult question. It depends how you would like to attack. You can smash or loop. For smashing short pimples are a good alternative, for looping the inverted is better. The inverted generates (usually) more spin than the short pips, but it is (usually) more difficult to control the opponent's spin with the inverted.
My tip: Test both, inverted and short pips for 2 or 3 trainings and then decide, because you will realize quickly which rubber you feel comfortable with.

Of course you should do a lot of backhand training, like return, push and smash / loop. Soon players will see that you are (at the beginning) weaker on your backhand so they will attack you there.
In my opinion you need to practise at least 3 times a week to adjust to the new material.

alternatively you could try to learn to attack with the lp backhand. its not that easy to learn, but once mastered is very rewarding.

Why on earth would you want to start hitting? 8)
