There may be no answer for this and might just be whatever an individual is comfortable with but after a discussion last night at the club I was wondering if there was any suggested set-ups for different styles of plays.

I'm looking at inverted rubbers only and what types of blades and rubbers suit these various styles as per the coaching section. There might not be a correct answer for these but if there isn't I'd still be interested to hear what people use that have these styles.

Inverted Retrieving
Blade - Fast or slow, hard/soft/flexi
Rubber - Hard or soft, Thick or thin, tacky or non-tacky

Inverted Chopping
Blade - Fast or slow, hard/soft/flexi
Rubber - Hard or soft, Thick or thin, tacky or non-tacky

Inverted Looping
Blade - Fast or slow, hard/soft/flexi
Rubber - Hard or soft, Thick or thin, tacky or non-tacky

Inverted Pushing/Blocking
Blade - Fast or slow, hard/soft/flexi
Rubber - Hard or soft, Thick or thin, tacky or non-tacky

Blade: OldNittaku Carbon
FH: Tenergy 05 Hard
BH: Yasaka Shining Dragon max
Inverted Retrieving

I can only speak for myself in this. As a largely self-taught player in my more formative years, I use

Blade: old Nittaku carbon blade (presented as a prize for being most improved at my club one year a couple of decades ago, so not particularly chosen by me)

Rubbers: As spinny as I can get, usually slowish, usually max thickness.
Currently Friendship 729 Geospin on backhand & Yasaka Xtend on forehand.
Previously, in no particular order:
Friendship RITC Tack Speed 2000 max both sides
Stag Thunderspin both sides
Mark V
Magic Carbon
Joola Tango
Joola Tango Extreme
Stiga Cobra 3 star (green!)

My rule of thumb,

Inverted Chopping / Retrieving
Blade - Slow, Soft, Flexible, e.g., Donic Appelgren Allplay
Rubber - Slow, Spinny, Tacky, High Throw, Hard, Non Geary, e.g., Friendship / 729 Super FX, 1.6 mm - 2.1 mm

Inverted Looping
Blade - Fast, Soft, Flexible, e.g., Butterfly Innerforce ZLF
Rubber - Fast, Spinny, Tacky, High Throw, Hard, Non Geary, e.g Butterfly Tenergy 05, 1.8 mm - 2.3 mm

Inverted Driving / Hitting
Blade - Fast, Hard, Stiff, e.g., Stiga Hybrid Wood NCT
Rubber - Fast, Non Spinny, Non Tacky, Low Throw, Soft, Geary, e.g., Friendship / 729 Focus 3 Snipe, 1.4 mm - 1.9 mm

Inverted Blocking - Pushing
Blade - Slow, Hard, Stiff, e.g., Butterfly Joo Se Hyuk
Rubber - Slow, Non Spinny, Non Tacky, Low Throw, Soft, Geary, e.g., Butterfly Flextra, 1.2 mm - 1.7 mm

Any thickness preferences of rubbers for these?

Update in my previous post. :)

Caveat,

- I put rather wide thickness range due to quirks in every player, e.g., touch based player such as Waldner can play better with little thinner sponge than max

- the thickness I mention is not universal, it belong to that particular rubber. For example, you can actually chop with max Sprungfeder G3 A2, cause it was very slow and hard, but very high spin potential. I dont think you need to go thinner than 1.9 mm using that. :)

I personally prefer thinner rubber. :)

Thanks, that gives a general feel as to what styles suit thicker or thinner rubbers in general terms.

I think Gambler Reflectoid is good for Inverted Blocking - Pushing.
