Hi all you experienced folk

Im new to this part of the site.

Im sure many of us have been there but since moving up to a higher division at my local club, the standard jump has been astronomical and the need to be able to block is just as important as being able to serve and loop.

Is anyone able to highlight some pointers or things i can work on outside of actual blocking practice? or would that really be the only thing that can help?

Would things like mirror shadowing help with technique or anything?

Varying grip pressure while moving fast is one thing that may help. The exercise I use for this I can't recommend on the internet.

You can also do basic ball bouncing with your backhand and try to get the ball to consistently bounce at low heights as a measure of grip relaxation and control. If you can ounce the ball without looking at your paddle on your backhand side (or looking at it only peripherally), you are on your way.

Learn to close your blade over the ball also and find the right angles. If you're going long close it more. If its in the net, open up a little...or it could be you're not taking the ball off the bounce enough.
