Ah, so that particular thing, I don't personally do this, but I recall some college varsity players using half-pound weights to swing like a bat during off-season practice. I think a coach has to be present so the stroke doesn't change because of the weight, that'll be bad...

And yes, moderate weight lifting is good in general, and I personally think TT can benefit from plyometrics. Not to bulk up but to gain some power and gain some explosiveness for the footwork, and increase overall stamina for the table. (Again, probably not directly related to stroke production)

Here's another one -- one for the forearm muscles which are usually used for services -- a light weight (hammer?) for service swinging practice.

i use screwdrivers all the time at work and ratchets which are very good for wrist strength and flex
not the most exciting reply but there you go

My strokes were grooved 30 odd yrs ago, I'm stuck with what I've got, my footwork is intrinsically linked. I take yr points Speedplay and Myname though, Herbert N is a quality player and was one long before the introduction of spinless pips, I applaud his pioneering attitude.

or as i have always refered to it

CACK HANDED BACKHANDED

as in awkward handed not sure if cack is a common word or just CORNISH
as you dont hear it very often
