Yes, the Kagin view is descriptively brilliant IMO.

lol I've entirely forgotten about this thread! Thanks everyone for your collective views! Yes I was referring to "encouraging" my opponents to play more aggressively (loops etc) so I could chop and use spin manipulation to my advantage. I don't get much spin reversal on a sponge LP so I'd prefer to chop if possible (blocking/pushing using ox LP is another playstyle all together). Your inputs have been useful! :D

Today I lost to a player in my league who didn't allow me to settle into my game. He's usually a looper/smasher but this time he just pushed and pushed to my BH. I pushed/chopped back to his BH also and the pushes continued ad nauseum. Would you suggest that I chop/push to his FH instead to tempt him to loop?

Well, you should do variations on your counter-push/chop to get him off-guard for starters. :D

I would probably do that instead of baiting the forehand. Nothing like a relaxing push game. Poison him with your pips and lift!

Yeah I tried as many variations as possible and tried to move him around too...the bugger is very good at returning balls. Makes me wonder why he's not a defender in the first place. I think he avoided my FH because I chop on the FH too...and he wants to avoid too much spin. :?: So frustrating arrrrgggghhhh!

If he pushes to your BH you should of scooped the ball into the corners, or dig into the ball with a heavier push creating topspin.
Twiddling is another option as he would of expected a no spin from your pips, if he tried avoiding your Fh cause of the spin, than twiddling would of been my first option.

Good tips Yuzuki and MM I'll try them both against him next time. My doubles team is currently #1 in the B grade league and I'm feeling the pressure.

Gee, good luck! Were you the one moving around, or he be the one moving around, or both of you were moving around? It *could* undermine his confidence when you keep moving him around while you don't seem to be...it probably looks like you're controlling him very well.

Otherwise, GOOD LUCK! Great job!
