WOW, first post in this section since July!
Just got a new bat and didn't have any new Energy so I pulled a sheet off another bat. This sheet had about two months use, ( 160 hours ) I had noticed the rubber had discoloration in the center where I hit most. It was still grippy but had lost it's bounce.
I decided to EEII before I put it on. Rolled the old glue off and put a coat on. About 6 hours later, I went to wipe it off and it had a strange shape. The outer 1 1/2 inch had started to dome. The center did not so it kind of looked like a donut. The next day I put the second coat on and it domed more but the center was a little flat. Victory glue brought the dome up more.
Now to the point of this post.
I hit hard. I can usually feel when a rubber is giving up. Never really gave it much thought, just time for a new sheet. Now I think it is the sponge that gives up from being crushed too many times.
I have a habit of checking the pattern the balls leave on the bat. It is about a 3 inch circle in the middle of the bat for 85% of hits. This is exactly the part of the rubber that did not dome.
If I am right, and you hit hard, it wont matter how you clean the rubber or what you do, it is going to die after just so much punishment.
I'll try it again on some more sheets when I get the chance.
:D

Until I can crush Hookshot (fat chance), I am not gonna advise him not to do something that he excells in. I only wish I could practice even a fraction of what he does.
