It is certain that with the new PVC balls spin of the ball will be reduced. Those who play with inverted will have less spin and this is not good for them.Same thing to long pip players but this time for spin reversal .Less spin less reversal. After the Ban of frictionless pips spin reversal reduced a lot and with these PVC balls no spin reversal effect at all or very little. This is my opinion of course ,perhaps I am wrong. But for the anti rubbers it is different. It is true that after the slippery pip Ban manifacturers produced anti rubbers with good spin reversal like Dr.Neubauer anties,Joola Timeless and Nightmare. But I think main difficulty to play against anties is the strong float balls of anti.Opponents mostly send the ball out because of these float balls. Now at this point I think with PVC balls float ball effect of anties will be more and anties will become more effective.Who knows ,anties like Toni Hold,Butterfly Super anti and others will become more popular with these new balls.I really want to learn our dear friends ideas in the Form. What they think about this.Thanks.

I guess, they're still developing the new balls. So let's see the final ball before we speculate on its effects.

This may or may not be the situation we face in a few years, but for the sake of discussion if all of a sudden you had to play nothing but drivers/counterdrivers (and no loopers) what tactics/equipment would you use?

The new ball is definitely more bouncy, not only on the table, but it feels much more bouncy off the bat as well.

Players are going to learn table tennis again as if they are beginners with these balls .(If not developed)

I addapted to the new 40mm ball when it was released and the manufacturers came out with new products to compensate, I imagine that it will be much the same when this change comes through. This is speaking from a standpoint of not hitting with a new build ball though so Im just speculating.

So with that in mind I imagine that there will be a series of new rubber/blade/sponges that will compensate somehow for this new ball... So the game will have an adjustment period then find its feet again. Plus we only have prototype balls as of this moment don't we?

There might be somewhat workable adjustments for inverted rubbers, but I highly doubt the ITTF will adjust the aspect ratio or friction rules to compensate for the new ball's properties, so there's not a whole lot of chance that the long pips style of play will continue as we know it.

Also these balls aren't early prototypes. The ITTF is happy enough with the development of the new ball to have them distributed at the annual meetings. It's OK to take a 'wait and see' attitude, but don't fool yourself into thinking the final version will be significantly different.
