Hello,

Perhaps someone could help me to find a player using this combo?

Looking for a while and no success. Must be there a player...

Happy New Year!

I'm fairly positive that Amelie Solja uses this combination; she's a forum favorite.

Her forehand might be MP, but that's just a technicality. It performs essentially the same function.

yes, that's right, but she's a bloker/pusher, I'm looking for a chopper...

Thanks!

Yes, Carlos Guilherme. Now playing in L.P.Salvo. But his FH is a normal inverted, maybe still Sriver.

I'm looking for a chopper using SP forehand to chop and flat hit. The BH could be anti or LP as the strategy should be the same.

Thanks.

There's a player in my division - played in my team last year when recovering from injury. He plays SP OX on FH and anti BH. I'd classify him as a retriever - plays the percentages, rarely ever makes a mistake, and has a nice FH kill. Of course - no videos of him, but he's been inspirational to me. Anything with topspin he chops, anything pushed or chops he 'lifts'. Lovely to watch.

Hum... sounds good, even if I put reserves about FH hits with Ox SP.

Can't judge correctly but looks a big downsize of options. I just can think in change the spin of an inverted for an agressive option. But I'm not an expert in SP, just like this combo concept.

There is a multi-time veterans world champion named Dieter Lippelt who uses DHS 652 on the forehand and Yasaka Power Anti on the backhand. He's in the black.

That's the one! Exactly what I'm looking for.
Is forehand chop is quite good. Do you know the sponge size?

Many thanks to all.

Yes. 2mm on both sides. He uses a "Dieter Lippelt-Schläger Allround, Mak Bird" blade.

Perfect info. I'm digging for some more info and games against more offensive players. The ones I found till now are just of other defensive players. Wonder how he plays against fast tops, loops and drop shots (more interested in his game options than in his performance).

He's a very nice reference for this combo.

Thanks again.

@MNNB: that is a remarkable video/player. Deserves close analysis! Very good find! Thanks!
By the way, this was in the over 75 class... I am 20 years away from that, but I wouldn't mind being able to play like that at that age. Amazing... And once week he trains kids 8-10 yrs old...

Lippelt is a very smart twiddler - among other things. He twiddles to his anti in order to chop incoming topspin and to attack incoming backspin; he twiddles to his SP if he wants to chop producing good backspin; and sometimes he twiddles for variation, to break the rhythm of his opponent (who is doing a rather good job, by the way). If there is a high ball coming, he twiddles to his SP to attack; most of these hits are winners.
I think this video supports the premise that using SP instead of inverted is an advantage when you get slower (on your feet) and less powerful. His opponent is struggling sometimes, whereas Lippelt seems to have things well in hand most of the time.
It is also a very good demonstration of using grippy anti for varied defense and attack. In my opinion, it is a lot harder to do the things he does, using LP instead of anti.
All in all it is a very nice example of creative adaptation to the normal process of slowing down with age. By his opponent as well, who has a hard time picking up the balls off the floor, but has adapted his inverted loop wonderfully to a very compact stroke which he can still execute with good effect. There is no great speed in this match, but very nice tactics, and excellent touch and techniques.
A pleasure to watch. Thanks again, MNNB...

This match reminds me a lot of the games I see in my local club. Many over 70s, some over 80s. Compact, efficient style, still a great feel for the ball, and intelligent use of kit. These veterans would thrash many of us younger folk!

I think all of us more than once played with veterans, over the 65. Normaly their forehand is the week spot, and most of them use and abuse of the backand, playing at the midle of the table. Hardly loop and even less appears a topspin. Some habits are really hard to correct, specialy at this age....

Is not the case of mr. Lippelt as is his very confortable in both wings.

Remains the question of the use of his SP. About chopping is no doubt he masters the movement, but and about the attacks?

He could use many other type of inverted to FH chop, adding some more backspin when chopping, twiddling, serving or even for some small loops.

I observed no blocks (right or left) or flat hits with the ball asking for it. Ok, we are talking about videos where he plays finals and is better play a safe game. :whew:

In all, what I pretend to express is: if is not to use the SP in an agressive way what's the point? This question is more important when in other side is an anti (or LP)....
