Same speed/disturbing numbers as Bison but with even more control (less sensitive to the bat angle)...

It is commonly acknowledged that our Anti-Spin rubbers BISON and BUFFALO produce the best spin reversal on the market.
Our latest development Dr.Neubauer RHINO also produces excellent spin reversal especially while blocking against topspin shots with a lot of rotation.
The rubber enables very short blocking, even on a fast blade and also against fast topspin shots.

Most of all control could be raised to an even higher level thanks to a new rubber formula. It has become easier to find the right angle for the bat.
This holds true both while playing passively (service return, blocking) and for an active type of game through pushing, lifting and even some counter-attacking.
All in all it has become easier to accelerate the ball in order to put some pressure on the opponent.

Anyone tried this rubber?

You can read some reviews at Noppen-test (use google translate). But it has just been released so there are only a few reviews yet. Not as slow as Mega Block from what I can recall, but more dynamic with extra speed at attacks (like Bison). It feels like Dr N is trying to do something as controlled as Mega Block but with the extra gear that Bison has and with the Neubauer-feeling (harder feel of the rubber than Mega Block or Transformer).

Hi Everyone,

I have a sheet of Dr Neubauer that has just arrived, I will be testing it and and more than happy to post a review on here comparing to both the Buffalo & Bison (all thickness I have are 1.8mm) they are however on different blades so this will effect the results a little,
Rhino is on the Dr Neubauer Jackpot
Buffalo is on the Dr Neubauer Barricade
And finally Bison is on the Dr Neubauer Kung-Fu blade.

I will be testing sometime soon but I can't say an exact date.

Hi everyone,

I haven't had chance to test as yet (apologies) however Dark Arts Table Tennis is running a open test bat session this Thursday, where anyone can come and have a test of different blades and rubbers, so i will have a test before then & get a collective response from the testers on Thursday then post a detailed review on Friday with opinions from a variety of people at different levels with different styles.

I will also be doing a video comparing Frictionless Long Pips to Frictionless anti-loop, the results are surprising with the last Dr Neubauer rubbers (Buffalo & Bison) they produce more disruptive effect than the infamous Super Block (with the right technique) this is obviously a big statement so hence why I'm going to be making a video so you all can see for yourselves that the wobble is greater and the spin reversal is very similar (spin balls will be used to demonstrate this)

For now I will attach some photos of the Rhino bat & here is a description of visual and feel of the rubber,
The Rhino like Bison & Buffalo is completely frictionless with a very slippery surface, as all Dr Neubauer products it has a very high quality feel & presence.
Rhino topsheet feels a little softer than Bison and noticeably softer than Buffalo (Buffalo has a very hard surface due to the very short pip structure) (obviously the sponge is the same throughout the range) this backs the factory description stating it produces more control, bouncing a ball on the bat it feels ever so slightly more dynamic than the predecessors, again factory description states it can produce more attacking shots, however I have no doubts that the stopping power is equally as good, looking forward to getting this on the table, At the moment my personal favourite is Buffalo simply due to the fact it has such a hard feel, it's alomst like OX rubbers (which I have used for the passed 7 years so it is a welcome feeling)

I received my sheet of Rhino 1.8 a couple of days ago and was able to glue up yesterday ready for a test tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to share some initial impressions tomorrow.

So I got a chance to hit a little bit with the Rhino 1.8 last night and to me it feels like a better or improved Bison. It has the same fairly hard touch (due to the hard ABS sponge) though it might be a tad softer than Bison as the topsheet feels slightly softer but these are small differences. The Rhino has a lower throw on blocks and pushes and particularly on blocks I had to adjust the bat angle a little bit but nothing which couldn't be corrected in a session or two. The reversal was just as good or even better (the topsheet feels slicker on touch!) than Bison and overall blocks seemed more dangerous. Attacking felt easier and here in particular to counter or press against no spin balls.
I will definitely continue to play with the Rhino as I really liked the feel and the seemingly added control compared to Bison.

Hi Everyone,

i have now had a few tests with the Rhino, I have the Rhino in 1.8mm on the backhand on the Dr Neubauer Jackpot blade, with the Tornado Ultra 2.0mm on the forehand.

so far very impressed!
great quality feel to the rubber both to look at and when playing, the control is fantastic, the throw angle is a little lower so some slight adjustments to be made when coming from Buffalo or Bison.

As far i can see it produces more disruptive effect overall, it produces a great wobble when blocking against loops, both slow & spiny and the faster harder loops with less spin (obviously blocks against the slow super spiny loops will produce more wobble than the faster ones however there is still wobble there!)
shots against side spin are brutal and often point winners or at least set you up nicely, when pushing against chop i feel the buffalo and bison produce more wobble but this produces more spin reversal, however when playing aggressive against chop/backspin this is a lot easier and produces great shots! again when playing aggressive against float this is a lot easier to get the shots on the table consistently.

When playing with this rubber it feels a bit softer and not as much direct feel as the slightly harder bison or the very hard buffalo, (i will state i have used no sponge pips for the passed 7 years so anything that doesn't feel 100% solid is going to feel a bit strange to me so take that into consideration when i say about the feel haha) even though i think it doesn't have as direct feel..... Strangely i still feel it has a lot more control and is easier to play.

The Rhino works fantastically with the Jackpot blade, a lot of control, massive disruptive effect, slow enough to block hard loops & drives but fast enough to attack and play aggressive, also the tornado ultra works great with this combination (although anti & short pips set up probably won't be everyones cup of tea) a drive from the ultra fast tornado, followed by a low ,short, very slow, wobbly block from Rhino, repeat and add some side to side placement and you will have your opponent on a full scale workout! again with the tornado you can produce enough spin to stop your opponent blasting through everything and keep the out on serves, for me this is a great combination but it won't be everyones cup of tea, that said the good Dr has brought out a new version of Goliath Speed thats even faster! :o so perhaps with that on the forehand the same effect can be obtained.

currently i prefer my Buffalo Purely down the ultra hard feel as coming from no sponge pips it has a certain familiarity and reminder of the good old super block no sponge, however i think that after a few more practice sessions i will be used to the softer feel, preferring the added disruption and control the Rhino offers, so watch out for the side bar of my listed equipment changing :D ;)

any questions please fire them at me
Kind regards
Dark Arts TT

Finally got the rhino 1.5 glued up and out for a test wack-a-roo!

I thought I'd compare it to be DMS mega-block, since that it what I usually use these days. This is the first Dr N anti spin I've purchased, though I had a short session with bison (on a friend's blade).

Rhino feels much harder than mega-block, that much is sure! I think it has more surface grip as well, and as a result doesn't have quite as much reversal. The reversal is still quite high, however.

I would say MB is much more beginner friendly and easier to use in general. The MB sponge just absorbs all kinds of pace! Rhino had a faster rebound, and was better at attacking low spin or no spin balls. It required a more delicate touch when blocking fast/spinny balls, but was still very doable. My assessment is that rhino needs better positioning and possibly anticipation, as it is far less forgiving if you're caught off guard.

The MB, due to the super slow sponge/speed, can handle 'panic' blocks with greater consistency. Again though, this is the opinion from someone who routinely uses mega block and has gotten accustomed to adjusting. If I used rhino more often, would my stance change? Probably not! I'm sure rhino can be used wonderfully and the adjustments made as needed to blade angle, along with grip pressure.

They both attack back spin about equally as well. MB might get a slight edge, as it does have better reversal so more back spin is converted to top spin giving a slightly safer margin when attacking pushes/chops. The rhino, naturally, is better at hitting no spin balls as noted above.

I kept swapping back and forth between the two and never really found a problem with either. The MB is just so much more forgiving, and with the 2.0 sponge, even more so I'm sure. I can't really recommend one over the other, since they feel so different. On the one hand, MB is more passive, but on the other hand it allows for more aggression if you consider attacking pushes/chops with impunity as offensive! So it really depends on your play style.

If you like short blocks, attacking back spin and don't mind dealing with no spin balls too much... then MB is probably the better choice.

If you like blocking back attacks with high reversal and waiting for a lower spin ball to slap away, then rhino is probably the better choice.

All in all, I don't think an anti spin user would be disappointed with either.

I am not surprised that it feels harder since the sponge of the Rhino is very hard (like 54º). However, I am a little bit surprised that your surface had some grip since my Rhino (as well as any other Dr. N antis before like Buffalo, Bison, ABS) had no surface grip whatsoever. There were some reports on noppentest.de that a few people had some powder like residue (probably some residue form the manufacturing process) on the surface; I had this on a Buffalo as well. In that case just wipe and polish the surface of the anti with a microfiber cloth.

I would say it's frictionless, but not to the level that mega block is. For example, if I do a back spin hit up in the air and 'catch' the ball on the blade as it falls -- the mega block will have the ball spinning on the rubber, without bouncing, due to the slick surface. With the rhino, by the time the ball stops bouncing the spin is pretty minimal. It spins a little bit on the rubber, but not nearly as much as either MB or transformer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WccJeu_pZMk

Mega block gets close to the rubber in that video. The rhino doesn't get that level of reversal, at least not on the sheet I have. How does yours compare?

My rhino sheet also looked like an oil spill. The black rubber had a bunch of spots and whatnot over it, whereas the other antis I've used all had a uniform color.

I have never done this test that is shown in the video. I'll try to remember to do that before my next practice session and report back here. I have never tested the MB so I can't really make a comparison, however some higher level anti players on the German noppentest.de forum stated that the Rhino had more reversal and funky flight paths but the MB was easier to play.
I never had any anti in black and all my red Dr. N antis always had a uniform surface except for the one Buffalo which had this powder residue. Try taking a microfiber cloth and wipe and polish the surface a little.
