The Meteor 835 is classified by quite a few people as an anti-spin rubber so I thought I'd give it a try. It cost around $15 including shipping off Ebay. I ordered it in black with 1.5 sponge.

I hit it against a robot and a returnboard using an Andro FiberComp blade.

The Meteor 835 has an unusually textured surface, not smooth like most rubbers considered to be in the anti family. It has a slow and hard yellow sponge, which allowed for **extreme** control in moving the ball around the table. Offensively, you can impart topspin, chop, no-spin and even loop with it, with everything going on the table -- sometimes almost in slow motion. Nothing seemed as though it would be particularly dangerous to return, however given time I'm sure there's a way to hit some uncomfortable balls with this.

The rubber does reacts to spin, so the normal anti attack shots against underspin didn't work. I found it reacted to spin more on hard shots and was a little more anti-like on soft shots.

I can imagine Meteor 835 would also be tremendous for blocking.

I wouldn't really call this an anti per se, but I also wouldn't quite call it a normal inverted rubber either. It's sort of an interesting in-between rubber.

So what kind of game would a rubber like this benefit? I could see it being useful for a super-control player who operates at the table pressuring the opponent with precise placement and who doesn't care about hitting tricky balls.

That player isn't me.

Is the spin reversal effect of Meteor 835 good? Thank you.

I think they call this an anti-spin rubber because it deadens the spin quite a lot on incoming balls, but it doesn't really reverse the spin. You can send back dead balls or impart your own light spin.

Interesting. 835 seems to come in "tacky" and "non-tacky" versions. And sponge in several thicknesses, down to 1.0mm (unlike MOST Chinese rubber).

There was a sheet on auction on ebay (from Eacheng), I bid $6.16 for it.
