This thread piqued my interest, so I had another quick hit with the Mirage. This time using the Andro FiberComp, which is the perfect complimentary blade for anti. The Mirage performed a lot better this time.
Regarding gekogark1212's slow, floaty ball against topspin, for me it seems to have a tad of underspin. For sure, it's an uncomfortable ball for the opponent to return and good to have in your anti shot repertoire, but I view it as more of a setup shot than an attacking shot.

Against underspin, from where anti attacks generally come, I thought my current benchmark anti, the Butterfly Super Anti which I have on an identical blade, had more venom on the shots.

Anyway, I now think the Mirage merits a further look.

By the way, the first time, I tried Mirage on a super fast, balsa Joola R*1. The R*1 is so fast, even with the super slow Mirage I probably had to be too careful, but anyway I got beat 3-0 by someone I usually beat. At the time I was looking at Mirage from a Super Block replacement perspective. The second time I tried it was on a Butterfly Timo Boll Spirit against the robot. I thought it had horrible feel on that blade and just wasn't a good match.

hey bob, you also gotta remember my strokes for anti are still highly undeveloped. So perhaps mirage was easy to pick up (a plug and play rubber) as opposed to the super anti which requires volumes of know-how to play with it without dropping 3 levels ahahah (omg, my BH is next to useless atm)

Btw, I find attacking underspin becomes predictable for the opponent, it's always either a drop shot or a slow top spin ball. Yesterday against Danny (a junior state team player), he just killed the ball after I attacked it into his body.

i think thats why i had trouble adapting to anti, moving from the P1r which is faster in speed and with alot more friction.

hey Bob what you suggest will be an ideal suited blade for the anti?

Well, ideally you want something stiff with a hard surface, not spingy like balsa blades made for pips. I think the Andro FiberComp is perfect. It's a little bit oversized, but lightweight, slow and stiff.

I also think the Joola Chen Weixing is good for anti, but it's a little heavier than I like. Some players use the super slow Joola Toni Hold White Spot. Others like stiff OFF blades.

Seemiller uses a Butterfly Grubba Pro, which has a medium feel, but he mainly uses the anti for returning serve. I found it difficult to keep hard loops on the table with the Grubba. Since Seemiller's usually the one doing the loops, this probably isn't an issue for him.

BTW, I glued the Mirage onto an Andro Super Core Carbon Light OFF+ blade tonight, but first impression was that it lacked control. I'll hit some more tomorrow.
