The red sheet could have a black sponge as well... Anti sheets aren't as transparent as regular inverted, the color of the sponge doesn't show through. I know this for a fact, I have seen and played against a red anti with black sponge.

I haven't played with it though, so I can't help you with that.

speedplay - I was interested. I'm still considering a switch to anti at the end of this season so will continue to show interest in your postings on these rubbers.

Yes, I play the New40. Bought some sheets of it last year (3 black,1 red) to replace DrN´s SB. They looked different than your rubber. "Notbob" has uploaded some pics of that version somewhre: No "Hi tech and faded black" but simply black. I`ve seen one of those newer version, but have not played with it yet. (NotBob: No, you don´t have to tell the ittf;)

The "old" version is slow (ox, 1.0 or 1.5)! It´s slower than 804 and even muuuuch slower than the DrN´s antis.

Most of the time I used the rubber for blocking but this was not too successful. So lately I´ve started attacking balls more and more which has turned out to be more effective and fun. So my play doesn´t look like in superblock-fs-days anymore but success is coming back after months of disappointment and darkness. :D

I think you're safe. I'm sure "der GLN Mörder" Eberhard Schöler is protecting his friend Toni Hold.

the murderer of frictionless?

how does 'GLN' become 'frictionless'?

I occassionally try to read thru noppentest auto translations with minimal success.

GLN = Glatten Langen Noppen (frictionless long pips)

That's just a colorful way of recognizing Schöler for his instrumental role in the banning of frictionless.

been using this rubber in red ox for 2 months now after using sb.it is the slowest anti out there at present and is very good for blocking but you have to attack serves more as a plain block is easy for your opponent. i also twiddle and use sticky rubber on forehand. i use an exaggerated roll topspin action on my backhand with it and it is becoming quite deadly now.

What sponge do you use?

You are correct, it's definitely NOT legal without sponge.

Ok, but... I go to a tournament with my gorilla topsheet and a paper-thin layer of something underneath. How is the ref/ump supposed to determine legality? Does he assume it's sponge or assume that sponge is not available that thin and it MUST be illegal?

You're right, that is a problem... the ref/ump will have to make this decision... there are no minimum thickness limits on sponges as far as I know, only restriction on it's composition (must be cellular rubber), so they'll have a hard time trying to prove it's illegal...

Using a loupe it's pretty easy to see if the supposed sponge between the rubber and the blade is actually foam, or a sheet of paper disguised as foam; the air bubbles are visible. However i don't know how to determine whether it's foam rubber or some other kind of foam.

You could try claiming that it's foam rubber with giant foot-long air cells, and you just happen to have only the air cell on your racket.
