New anti rubber is on the market from Joola.

Does anybody know anything about it? It's on contra website in 2 versions. 1 normal and 1 control. Sponge thickness varies from 1mm, 0.7mm and 0.4mm if memory serves.

Here's the marketing spiel. Waiting for a real review now.

AMY ANTI Classic Version

The Classic Version comes with a soft 1mm sponge and is a little more difficult to control, however the spin reversal with blocks is much more dangerous. In addition, attacking shots and flutter balls can be played with the Classic.

Tempo: low
Spin: low
Control: extra high

AMY ANTI Control Version

The Control Version comes with a new, very thin sponge so the rubber can be played very much control. Even fast loops can be returned easily. Amy Solja plays the Control Version with 0.4mm sponge.

Tempo: low
Spin: low
Control: extra high

Cheers MMNB. I'd seen it mentioned on a few europen sites and wondered if they'd done a review. Unfourtunately my foreign language skills for a specific sport like table tennis are inadequate.

Interesting that Solja plays the control version if the company is to be believed. I hadn't seen that before.

I don't think the AMY rubbers are shipping yet.

I doubt Solja really uses it since it was reported she had pips at the recent German championships, where she didn't play well.

Seems bizarre that they claim a soft sponge gives better spin reversal. That's contrary to the physics of existing antis.

Yes I agree... that gives me some doubt there's much truth to their marketing blurb...

If the control version was to be slower as well that would also be on the thinner sponge.

Theymight be different sponges, not just different thicknesses.

They're probably the same topsheet on different sponges. I read 45-degree for the Control, 32.5-degree for the Classic. Control is supposed to be better at the table and Classic better off the table.

I just had another thought on this... perhaps on higher impact the soft sponge bottoms out real easy, which would give it more spin reversal...

She is not playing with this anti. I got confirmation that she's using : Combination Effect / Diamant on FH / Gorilla 0.6mm on BH.

Bummer, guess the hype was just that. Makes one wonder how many sponsored players don't use what the company claims...Maybe I don't want to be disillusioned any further...

(Glad to see you one of the growing framily of Xiying 979 users. Would be interested in knowing how you employ it and how it is working for you. I am at day 15 of my 6 month effort to stick with a single blade/rubber combination. It took a good bit of thinking to decide on 979 over the Bomb Talent.)

@ tOD

I still enjoy playing with 979 XY (since last Sept) and I continue discovering its possibilities in terms of strokes. I play at the table, away from the table. I am moving from mid-distance chopping to blocking at the table since I've been using it.

If you wanna know how I use it, check-out youtube (type Xiying in the search bar) and you'll see a video I did 2 weeks ago.(quality is not that great but it should be helpful, at least I hope)

Long live 979 Xiying!

I think for the price and my game Xiying 979 is the best I have found, but my internal EJ cries out to try "Just one more new thing!"

I will take a look at the video and thanks for letting me know.
