Since a passive block against a drive isn't very effective, I've been experimenting with some other ideas.

Pullback block
Solja-style sideswipe
Block off the bounce
Block off the bounce with a bit of wrist
Slow chop with closed blade
Heavy chop with closed blade
Kind of a lift/push forward block

Th rubber is supremely controllable and all of these shots seem to work in varying degrees, so maybe the answer is while there is no killer default "go to" shot, there are a lot of options available to keep the opponent guessing. Will keep testing.

So the ABS is much better than the AS in regard to the random pop-up problem? I've got my AS topsheet on 2.0 phoenix sponge and it's slow enough with enough reversal but I dont think i'll ever eliminate the randomized control problems.

I went to China to get a coach to blasted at my A-B-S
Well.... when he really blasts it, I had huge trouble trying to return the ball, I am thinking my carbon/arylate blade may be too stiff and hard. Maybe I should try some balsa wood to see. But of course, such a strong loopdrive is a kill shot, and in a match, I am "supposed" to not return those anyway

But you are right, when I do return it, there is not that much underspin. But for such shots, I am happy just to return the ball on the table. And the idea is to try not to pop the ball so high in the first place so my opponent can blast it at will

A-b-s seems to much more controllable than previous Dr. N anti's. Once I get the hang of it, I don't have too much random pop up issues with it.

I haven't used AS, but had tried Gorilla and Grizzly. Those one, I would pop up balls, like you say, randomly, I really don't know why so balls just go wild. At least with A-B-S, when I miss a return, I do know why I missed it, and am confident that with practice, I can control it. With G and G, they seem like they had it's own mind!
