Looks like a block to me. Maybe with a touch of backspin. Nice play, though.

Off the bounce, pull away block with a long pull away follow through. Backspin comes from taking it right off the bounce.

Dudes been watching too many Waldner videos . Great touch. That shot does produce a natural backspin.

A version of a chop block with inverted :)

It isn't a chop block:
After the bounce the ball is moving upward relative to the blade.
Therefore the blade is moving downward relative to the ball.
The blade need not chop downward relative to the table.
Then, the pullback is to subtract speed (and the pullback in the video is dramatized, after the ball is long-gone).
Hookshot is correct. Thank you hookshot.

Anything that surprises the opponent has some value. Even pips-out. :-)
I want to work on blocking. Then, either pushing a little or pulling a little is the natural extension. Then I would like to practice "pullback" shots of all kinds (see e.g. He Zhi Wen for very frequent usage at all angles and speeds).

To foam:
To extend the variety of pull-back shots and to enable more extreme pull-backs that surprise the opponent, the blade+rubber should be faster than what one would normally use, to extend it's useability in the pullback dimension, so to speak. This is one of my justifications for violating the conventional wisdom about blade speed. Just thinking about it, wouldn't someone who both pushes and pulls be more dangerous than someone who only pushes? Whether or not I'm ever a good player, my rationale seems good.

Not a chop block. Its just that he pulled the bat back to reduce speed. It will naturally have backspin.

Pretty spectacular shot, and with several risks too. He could have sent the ball long if he got the timing wrong, or if he got it a little high with poor timing the opponent may have gotten in in time to have a clear table to push it for a winner. He made it look simple, but I think it was executed to perfection.
