A great win from this lady, after coming back from 0-7 down in the final set to win the Nigeria Open Quarter Final match! You've got to feel a little for the opponent :( A more genuine handshake would probably have been a good gesture.

What do you think?

A little over the top I'd say. Maybe if she'd won the Grand Final she could celebrate this way, but still a little more respect for the opponent should be given.

Always handshake first after a match to show respect towards your opponent. After that you can celebrate as much as you like.

This is along the same lines as another thread i started on handshakes. I found it highly disrespectful. Right next to her, cmon. Would love to have seen the other lady punch her in the face as she walked off. Poor winners are as bad as poor losers.
How good was the opponent though, going around shaking hands with everyone with her head high despite the disappointment. She's welcome at our club any time.

she was just happy, and if you also consider her origins, the dance is well understood, this is just the way she expresses her joy.

Made me think of Serena Williams...

Many people from African descent just dance when they're happy

PS: I agree she should have shaked hands before exploding

she can be happy as much as she wants, but dancing around before giving your opponent the opportunity of a handshake, basically forcing him/her to wait till you are finished is disrespectful.. :^)

Some more respect for the opponent, but I always like when people are showing their emotions in sports! Pretty funny I think but yeah a bit to much maybe.

... great dance, though. From a marketing point-of-view it's good for table tennis.

Does it say in the rules that players have to shake hands? If not, the winner certainly wasn't hostile to her losing opponent. Unless, of course, there was a subtext in her dance I didn't understand.

Putting myself down as the  advocate.

Yeah. Poor sportsmanship IMO. Some immediate celebration/relief is understandable. But the next order of business IMO, is to shake your opponent's hand and that of the umpires. Then you can go back to celebrating. Maybe I've watched so many tennis matches that this is the order that seems right to me. But I've never liked how so many table tennis players seems to act as if the opponent isn't even there with their perfunctory hand slaps while not even really looking at the opponent.

It's not a rules question, but one of sportsmanship/etiquette.

Of course it's common sense to shake hand after a game but I wonder if there is some rule that says you must? Does someone know?

To be fair, I didn't think this was that bad. I mean I've seen cases (mostly in fencing) where competitors do their "cho" yells as they score points right in the face of the opponent, with the purpose of provoking. This, to me, just looks like lots of happiness. Borderline disrespectful imo, but I wouldn't be upset if an opponent did that as I lost.
