Has anyone practiced this with inverted? Watch further into the video to see better the technique.

Looks hard to do! :o

Awesome shot and much potential to get it horribly wrong! Not new though.......we were coached this on camp in about 2009, reputed to be a ma lin shot! i could never get the timing right, it requires immense skill.

This short surprisingly easy to learn, when you using rubber with chop in its name, like Tackiness Chop, on hard slow blade.

The faster incoming ball, the less our rubber affected by incoming spin, returning sharp and heavy backspin. ;)

"But, Ma Long done it with Tenergy / H3"

That is why He is one of the best in the world, and we are couch potatoes.

Ordinary people need blocker or blocker chopper combi to execute it properly. Chinese rubber user should probably steer away ;)

I've gotten pretty good at it for my level. I think this chop block is a bit harder than the one Kenta favors (side-spin with the back hand or side/chop). Ma Long's go from right to left and Kenta's going from left to right, to clarify.

Just spent a lot of time drilling them on the robot. Now they come fairly natural in games and usually lead to points. I'm using tenergy for these on pretty fast blades, but again not near a pro level... for amateurs I think this shot is entirely doable with any rubber.

I also do it on the forehand too, when using inverted. Both right to left and left to right blocks. Very effective on that side as well! As an example, if someone hits a shot to my wide forehand -- instead of doing a basic block right back, I can do the side spin block and have the ball land close to the net on the left side of the table, spinning out even farther.

It looks similar to this shot from waldner https://youtu.be/2dRuUeMKe5k?t=2m14s

but done with the forehand
