Ordered a sheet of Galaxy Pluto red 1.6mm from the OOAK shop last Saturday UK time. Order was despatched on Monday Australian time and received Friday UK time.

I asked haggisv a quick question about payment methods and got a fast reply and was also notified when the rubber was shipped by the OOAK shop. Amazing delivery speed considering it came thousands of miles and it's the Christmas period.

Why did I use OOAK?


1. Better variety of choice with Short Pips than in the UK
2. Better choice in sponge thickness
3. Was cheaper than UK - even including the price of delivery (how OOAK charge $6 (Australian) for delivery and SportsMadison charge 16 Euros plus VAT for a delivery of Rakza Short Pips from Spain is beyond me)

As long as my order stays under the import duties I'll continue to shop at OOAK.

Just curious, what is the import duty threshold for the UK?

I think it's recently changed to anything which costs £16 or more (used to be £18 I think) and that cost includes the cost of postage, which is bought outside of the EU. It's "our way" of clawing back VAT or adding VAT to imports outside the EU. Then if it's over a further amount and of a certain type of product there's customs and excise to pay on top - not sure what the rates are on that. It gets worse, the Post Office act as the tax man for collection of these "duties and VAT" so if I bought from you and it cost (including shipping charges) £18, I have to pay additional VAT at 20% and the wonderful Post Office charge an admin fee of £8 for the pleasure of working out and collecting the VAT from me so that £18 at point of purchase could easily jump to nearer £28.

Of course this depends how it's declared on the package posted from the seller and whether the Post Office notice/identify it as being subject to VAT and customs/duty etc so it is possible to get away without being charged import duties and VAT but it's something you have to factor in as the Post Office will hold me liable for any charges, not the sender.
