Got some new Darker blades in, including the new Darker Spline defensive series. You'll have to go the shop to see all the closeup pictures, as there are too many pics for me to embed here. I've written a bit of a review and have done some comparisons of the Darker Spline blades here. Basically they are Defensive blades with Willow outer plies (except the D3). The D1 & P1 (P1 is the Cpen version of the D1) are the slowest, the D2 faster and the D3 the fastest (around ALL+ IMO). Unlike virtually every other Darker blade, they do not have Kiso Hinoki plies. |

About the D3 I think it is koto wood being sealed. IMO. Prove me wrong if you can see the difference. |

I reckon you might be right there... it looks very much like the outer plies of the BT 550/555 which also have varnished outer koto layers. Thanks for the tip and well spotted! EDIT: I just realised that the outer plies of the BT 550/555 are actually supposed to to be Limba, so I might have been right in the first place I find it hard to tell the difference between Koto and Limba... can anyone else confirm from this picture (clikc to enlarge): |

Hang on here... People always confuse me with which is which for the bt range and the P5 and p7 range on which has the outer koto and which has the outer limba. The Bt's use the Limba and the P5 and P7 use the Koto from what I remember. |

I'm comparing photos to my old Viscaria light which was koto and I'm saying for the D3 that it is Limba the Koto seems to have more stranger lines while the limba lines are very straight or that might be how the wood cut turned out. My final answer is limba on this and sealed as well. |
