I played in a local tournament that looks to be a regular (last year was the first time). Playing is on three tables, and the venue is a small converted barn (currently used for concerts etc., no farm related activities anymore.)

Lost all my matches, but that is as expected. On warmup I noticed that my new bat would be too bouncy to play well against the best of the locals. Took out the old axe, and was surprised and a bit disappointed. It was so slow (compared to what I've been training with lately) that I played every single ball short. It felt like a black hole, almost. Didn't have time to readjust to that setup, so I just switched back to the Yasaka, bouncy pips and all, and enjoyed the experience...

Would have lost everything anyway, I suppose. It's as much a social event as it is a sports event, so the groups are made on notion more than actual accomplishment. (Most of the players aren't in the rating system anyway, "basement players" I guess the term would be). I was put in the "elite" group (with the best club players), and was happy to win a few sets.

More importantly, There was progress for our club players. The young ones in particular did really well.
Nice to have an indication that we're doing something right.

Now home to swap rubbers on my blades. Hopefully the change will yield two more controllable bats, and more fun in the long run.

@mods: I felt that this subforum was the place for my report. If it belongs more in the "personal blogs" section, please move it.
