I didn't do well in singles at all, but my partner and I won the U3000 doubles Sat Feb 18th. This is my first win in any class higher than beginner class (U1000)! We lost one match, but qualified for the finals anyway. In the finals we won 3-0 and none of the games were close. Our finals opponents just couldn't handle our long pips and consistently gave us pop-ups which we killed. For some reason in my doubles matches my loops and smashes were hitting...not so much in singles for some reason. My partner has an absolutely wicked backhand kill with his LPs on any ball even slightly high and it NEVER gets returned.

I played with GD Talon Ox on my backhand. My partner played with 802-40 SPs on his forehand, and and a 729 LP (not sure which) on his backhand. So our opponents got the Long Pips Double-Whammy!

Congrats! That sounds like a nasty combination, especially in U-3000. JimWeiland and I do VERY well together in doubles. We both have awkward styles, use long pips (mine black, his red) so the opponents have a really difficult time getting used to what to look for. Last year we were a combined 3700 heading into the state tournament and we beat a team that was rated around 4200. The previous year we pulled off a major upset as well. Hopefully this year we'll be able to take first place.

Because my style is unusual, I typically don't mesh well in doubles matches, but with Jim, it's a perfect fit, and I love playing doubles. I also did pretty well with his son at the 4-star Badger Open last year.
