I just finished a Korean Amature tourney in NW Seoul. I was registered as div 4, which is pretty close (not the strongest player in that field at that rating) and when I did my qualification group, the tourney director changed my division to div 3. I was the only one that got this. I see why he upgraded my status, but there were many others who were better players than I and none got div 3 rating. Sandbagging motor scooters. Div 4 in Seoul and national open events are notoriously bad for this. There were 8 div 4 players who would be strong div 3 players in that field. I lost to a certain player in group stage, but advanced as no 2 in my group. I went to the round of 8 where I met him again, had to spot him 2 points, and crashed out 0-3 11-9 each game. The div 3 and div 4 were combined for this tourney. I was pissed. There were ZERO div 3 players in hte round of 16. ZERO. That says something.

At the end of the day however, I need to shut up and play my matches to win, whether or not the deck is stacked against me or not.

I need to improve a little more and get into div 1 and div 2 Seoul. I know what to expect there and the field is even. They are all experts.

It does seem strange that all your events seem to be handicap? and in 99% of all draws I see If two players qualify from a group the automatically go to the opposite sides of the knockout draw and can only play again if both get to the final

Korean amature tourneys use divisions. If there are more than 36 players in a division, there is no need to merge divisions. Tourney directors do that to make the field bigger. If you have only 16 players in a division, then 8 will advance and there will only be another couple matches and it is all over. In that case, the tourney director would merge that division into another. Usually, div 1 and div 2 get merged. At the larger tourneys, none of the divisions get merged. Everyone in that case plays each other without handicap points. Issue is many skilled players in div 4 in national level and in Seoul stay in div 4 instead of moving into div 3 and div 2. Div is the worst.
