Played between teams from Australia, China, Japan & Korea. The Australian team is an Australian Rep team, while I believe that the others are not rep teams, but will probably beat Australia anyways.

On tonight & tomorrow night (25th & 26th October) at ELS Hall, Ryde ... Sydney Australia.

Format: Think Hopman cup in tennis - one male singles, doubles & one female singles (not necessarily this sequence). Two rounds tonight, one round tomorrow night. Can't remember who plays who when.

Reason I know about it: I'll be there umpiring & asking the question about dark wood grained bat with translucent red ox pimple rubber - see other thread where I promised I would ask a referee.

Sounds like it was organised by John Alexander (the rather famous tennis player):

Yup, JA. I mentioned a bit of the Bennelong Cup background in the How to raise the image of the sport thread earlier this week.

I went and watched the first night - format was mens singles, womens singles, mixed doubles, mens singles, womens singles, but they had 2 courts for each match and played the mens and womens singles simultaneously.
First round - China defeated Australia 4-1 and Japan defeated Korea 3-2.
Second round was China v Japan and Australia v Korea. When I left, scores were 2-0 with China and Korea both leading by the same margin.
The non-Australian men were all juniors, but the women were more mixed.
There were some great rallies.

I'd interested if anyone know the rest of the results.

China came 1st, I think undefeated as a team.
...
Australia came 4th, I think winless as a team, with a couple of individual match wins.

Australian team: Justin Han, Chris Yan, Heming Hu, Kane Townsend, Miao Miao, Sally Zhang, Vivian Dederko.
For Australians note the preponderance of NSW based players.

Team from China: Tao Wenzhang, Chen Boyu (both male), Fan Siqi, Gao Ran (both female).
From the Shandong Luneng Table Tennis Club. Table Tennis Australia has an agreement to train there in 2014 in preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Team from Korea: Cho Seung Min, Lee Jang Mok (both male), Kim Dan Bi, Sim Sarom (both female).
Males from Dongsan High School, females from Korean Airlines professional team. Kim Dan Bi is a chopper.

Team from Japan: Ryuzaki Tonin, Ogata Ryotaro (both male), Sato Yui, Marina Matsuzawa (both female).
Males from Japan Elite Academy, females from Shukutoku University

I umpired a couple of the Korean chopper's matches, which were longer than any of the other matches as far as I could tell, and a pleasure to watch from "the best seat in the house".

And I talked a little with jevansau in between umpiring duties :)
