OOAK Table Tennis Forum

I'm crossing the border and heading to my first proper tournament in a few weeks. Having a go at a couple of the lower divisions as well as throwing myself to the wolves in the Open.
Anyone else going or been before? What can i expect?

Went to Ballarat this weekend for the tourney. Played in the Open, over 30's, div 3, div 4 ( the lowest) singles and div 3 doubles ( the lowest). Came 2nd in the doubles and win my first match in div 4 but didn't win a set in the rest. Open was way out of my league but played ok despite being smashed. Was disappointed with my other matches as i felt i could have done better. These guys were all 800 to 900 Vic rating. Was in my shell a bit and just poked around, didn't take control and paid the price. Heaps of chances to win sets but didn't get one. I'd like to have multiple games against these guys as i think i could do better but at the same time accept that the scoresheet doesn't lie and they were better players. It reinforced to me that to really take the next step i need to become more confident to loop pushes as simply pushing them back is asking for trouble. Fast topspin serves is another problem area but really should be easy. Back to the practice table .
For interest, since i beat a 650 level and lost to 850 and above, I'm guessing I'm in the 700's somewhere in the new Vic system.

Good effort Cobalt. When I started playing tourneys I barely won a match for the first 6 months. Im sure you will be better for the experience - it can take a while to get composed and confident in a tournament environment.
