we are group of 25 people who are actively playing every weekend. i just wanted to know what is real useful best way to find out rankings among us. |

There are various algorithms, but in essence, you play each other and award points depending on who beats whom. Most of the algorithms are based on some form of initial seeding, so that a strong player beating a weak player gets few or no extra ratings points, and a weak player beating a strong players gets lots. One way to do the initial seeding would be to organise a double round all-play-all tournament, or if that takes too long, set up a ladder system and leave it for a while to determine an initial seeding. |

Set up league games every weekend using a Round Robin format. You could do a giant Round Robin where everyone plays everyone or you could divide everyone into groups according to their perceived playing level. Use the Zermelo software provided at http://www.ratingscentral.com/Instructions.php to set up and run your league matches. Submit the results to http://www.ratingscentral.com and let it calculate ratings to rank your players. Note that an individual's rating reflects one's playing level amongst the people in your group and cannot be used to compare to an individual outside your group. |

In San Diego they use some software (likely the stuff above) but they do it pretty simple. Once a week you will do a round robin at a table. You play 3 other people and then you are done. Over the course of a few weeks using rating software you'll have a ranking list and know how to pair players of similar ability. The software seems to setup tables based on level but with some randomness so sometimes a higher player will be in a group with 3 lowers and have to defend the points (but sometimes that higher player will get to play up too). |
