| Post subject: | 2016 Bennelong Cup |
It's on again. This time there are 2 teams from Australia, a team from each of China, Japan & Korea, and a composite Oceania team. Not many from the Australian Olympic team, and at the moment not much info of exactly which clubs from China, Japan & Korea are playing. As usual yours truly is doing some of the umpiring. Here is the TTA website for info: http://tabletennis.org.au/News/2016-hyundailuneng-sports-bennelong-cup John Alexander, the federal member for Bennelong, has arranged for every school in his electorate to obtain table tennis tables, and today as part of this has a schools tournament, and an exhibition match was held yesterday in the Great Hall in Parliament House in Canberra attended by the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister. |

Apparently the PM and Treasurer were in attendance for the opening. I think one or more of the kids from Croydon TTC are involved. |

The team from Korea was from Ansan City Hall. The team from Japan was from Nittaku (Team Nittaku!). Australia Green was undefeated up to Saturday night, along with Japan, but then lost to Korea in the first Sunday session, and then Japan in the final session. One of the ladies from Japan is ranked 120 in the world. Ultimately the finishing order was Japan, China, Korea, Australia Green ... They got the players and even us umpires to sign a couple of oversized bats. One of them is to be presented to the Prime Minister by John Alexander this week. |
