By winning the 2017 Croatia Open, Panagiotis Gionis became the fifth defensive player to win an ITTF World Tour or ITTF Challenge Series Men’s Singles title - and first non-Asian defender ever. The others? Ding Song, Hou Yingchao, Masato Shiono and Joo Sae Hyuk. Pretty good company.  The ITTF tour started in 1996.

He played great and seemed to be in control most of the time. Only Benedict Duda was close. Gionis was the 2nd seed. |

Didn't Muramatsu win the Czech open last year? Or was that only in the U21-event? |
