Hey everyone, just played a tournament in el Monte CA, lots of fun as always however a young girl was playing and screaming every time she won a point, every single time she won any point, very much like Harimoto; who I find annoying to say the least. Now I understand celebrating a hard fought point, I "cho" loudly maybe three times a tournament, just to psyche myself up. When Harimoto plays and screams he's not interrupting other matches being played at the tournament. This girl's screaming was interrupting 15 other matches.

My question is, are there any rules in place to stop this intimidating, obnoxious type of behavior, or just grin and bare it or scream louder than her. Thanks in advance for any help or rule clarification.

PS I was not in this girl's event so she is effecting other people she did not have to play. Bad sportsmanship!

PSS The screaming didn't really effect my play but others I drove with were complaining or commenting on the drive home.

I have, on a couple (very few) occasions, walked across to the table, waited until they are about to hit a winning shot, and shouted "Oi! Shut the f&%k up!"

This has always resolved the issue to date...

I agree that if the shouting is distracting to other matches begin played, they should receive a warning. I'm not sure if the current rules accommodate this though.

Ahaha, I find it a little funny that I have an idea which match you were talking about...She's actually one of the players from my university table tennis club (the best even I think lol).
However, I agree that the celebration might be distracting to other players, but if cho'ing is a way to get rid of nerves and it's the 5th game in a Bo5 tourney, I might let it slide. They were a bit frequent though :/

If that's her that the OP is talking about... it's definitely not Harimoto-style. I didn't find her annoying at all really, and she was incredibly respectful of her opponent.

Harimoto is way louder and more irritating imo.

Simple answer.First raucous cho, yellow card.Second raucous cho ,yellow card and out of the match.

Another solution. The ITTF will give away ear plugs for both the audience and the players .

Alternate solution: concentrate on your match and you won't be aware of anything else
