I just got from the NZ North Island Open, I entered the Open , B grade 40's and 50's. The event started Friday and finished Sunday 8pm. I played in total 17 singles 3 mixed and 8 doubles. A lot in 2 and a half days, and today I feel it was too much. But the risk is you get knocked out early and have nothing to do. By the end of the last day I was so tired and had to rush to get through my games to make my flight I played like a leaper.

Also Auckland is much higher humidity than Christchurch and it makes playing conditions much harder than what I am used too, can not work out of ball is heavier slower drops quicker bounces higher sometimes or lower others. So it take the whole tournamnet just to get used to the conditions.

Overall lost to on body who I normally beat, beat one person who I have never beaten, beat 4 players I never played before and lost to the same people I normally lose to ( but hoped I would beat some of them but I did not ).

Not a bad tournament but did plays some crap doubles at semis in 40 and B grade for would have made the finals in both of these events.

Hmm, I thought 2 events was a good number for events to enter....

Probably one singles event and a doubles event, or maybe 2 singles events...

Given my personal fitness, I'll probably last only one event, but kinda sad if you get sent out so early in a knock-out system.

For tournaments that span two days of a weekend, I always enter at least 3 events for that very reason, I know I'm not going to advance out of the initial round robin in more than one or two, and otherwise I'm sitting around for too long. Plus, if it's somewhere that I have to drive to and stay overnight, I might as well make the most out of the hotel and gas cost. In a tournament earlier this year, I played in four singles events in one day, one of which I advanced out of my group and got to the semifinals of. Talk about a full day. But it was plenty of fun.

What you need to decide is how much you can physically handle and go from there. By no means am I in good shape, but I play a lot of 3-4 hour table tennis sessions in humid conditions anyway, typically on back to back days, so I'm in decent "table tennis shape", if that makes sense, so I know I can handle a full day like that. Plus, I'm just a very competitive person, and I need to get my fix.
