Henzel did not miss out by much!

I'm sure sure what this commission actually does?

Thanks MNNB!

Does not look like they have any powers at all.

Good to see Joo chosen anyway! ;)

After the elections, the Executive Committee can appoint five active or retired players with the qualification that they have taken part at least at one world championship. This is supposedly to ensure a fair balance in terms of continents, gender equity etc. (or to make sure there are an equal number of "Adham guys" on the panel).

Meaning that for each ELECTED member there is a counter-balancing ITTF-appointed UNELECTED member specially handpicked by the ITTF and beholden to the ITTF for their position on the panel.

It would be better if the players actually picked their own representation rather than have half of it dictated to them.

Pipped at the post guys - story of my tournament! :headbang: We'll see who the ITTF appoints for the remaining 5 positions - I'm not sure how the appointment process works.

I'm curious why you wanted to be in the commission William, and what you think you could achieve if you were in there?

A string of poor decisions (let's just mention frictionless pips ban, booster witch-hunt and service rule to start with) have frustrated me over the past years. I don't want to be a person who just talks about how bad things are but does nothing when the opportunity presents itself to become involved and influence important changes to our sport. I applaud the ITTF for getting the Athletes Commission running and it shows a will to improve.

I sure wish you were on there. Hopefully the ITTF will take note of the close vote and the need for geographic representation from Oceania and appoint you.

Ah, and you know for a fact that ITTF won't pick players with different styles, to make sure all styles are represented? Or to get a good geographical spread on the elected guys?

Or, if William is picked, he will automatically become an Adham guy?

Since when does the ITTF care about any styles being represented other than loopers? They want other styles gone.

If players were making the decision on all ten, William would already be elected. Let's see what happens now. If the ITTF appoints players like William who understand the pulse of table tennis at all levels and want to make a difference, then the ITTF will have made an intelligent decision. However, if the appointees all end up being Adham's cronies or ITTF 'yes men' with the ulterior motive of canceling out the elected players' votes if necessary, then no good. The sad fact is often political appointees are given positions as payback for favors, past and future. A free all-expenses trip to the GAC Championship every year for attending one meeting would be a pretty sweet enticement.
