People were pronouncing it incorrectly before, they used to call Joo Se Hyuk's first name by "hyuk" which is incorrect, its meant to be "Sehyuk", same with Oh Sang Eun.

And yes, the ITTF are a bunch of OCD freaks

So this is the official reason from the ITTF?

Yeah, primarily so that people pronounce the names right I guess.

lol, imo that is a lame excuse

I guess it is normal if you pronouce the world number 1000 wrong or have the surname/name mixed up, but not a top 10 player.....

BTW, I'm not a native English speaker and some times have trouble with English names or other langauges. So what do I do? I will say sorry, how do you pronouce this or what is your surname, what is your name? No body needs to change any rules for me, I will ask when I am not sure, it is so much easier

Will legally speaking, you can't just change other peoples name right?

If your name is Jean Paul Van Der Berg (random example)
First Name: Jean Paul
Surname: Van Der Berg

You can't just go and write Jeanpaul vanderberg right? Yet along adding characters to the name to help with the pronouciation.

The only way for this to happen if the Korean players themself have the name change in English and ITTF needs to update the new names
