Quote: The International Table Tennis Federation and Sandman Table Tennis, LLC are pleased to announce that they have resolved their legal dispute. The resolution will allow Sandman, with ITTF's permission, to stage future table tennis tournaments under the name "World Championship of Ping Pong" as "ITTF Registered" events in which national table tennis associations may choose to enter their players. ITTF will continue to be the sole orgarizer of the World Table Tennis Championships and all other World Championship events in the sport. To clarify, all "World Championship of Ping Pong" participants must use the so-called Sandpaper racket. Adham Sharara President – ITTF See? The ITTF can be beaten. Some type of class action lawsuit might be the only way to stop the plastic ball. |

That's good to hear. I don't know if the ITTF got 'beaten' though... they may have had to pay the ITTF, or some other compromise been made to make it happen. |

I doubt any money changed hands. Rather than lose in court, the ITTF just made WCPP an official ITTF event. Sandman isn't done in court, however. There is a vicious lawsuit going on between them and Escalade Sports who own the trademark on the word "ping pong." Sandman is arguing that ping pong is now a generic term and therefore has lost its trademark protection, similar to “aspirin” or “yo-yo.” Escalade Sports is desperately trying to protect ping pong as its "brand." However this resolves will be very interesting. Click here to read the actual lawsuit. |

You're right, very interesting read indeed! Seems a little rediculous that you'd have to pay someone to use a word though... I doubt the word was invented by them anyway... |

I think it's time for ping pong to become a generic term like aspirin.
