My basic impression for drilling is that it doesn't incorporate game pressure and tactics. I noticed that when you put the random element in, while there isn't much game pressure (unless your partner is egging you), the tactics are now incorporated, which it in itself, is another link in the chain.

Agree about it being difficult to incorporate game pressure, but not sure about tactics side. The random element and playing the point out once the drill part is complete lets you incorporate your tactics..

What I found with the random element - corner to corner then random block down the line was that I started to pay more attention to what my opponent was doing with his bat angle and body position/movement, looking for clues as to when he would switch rather than guessing or just reacting. When I started to recognise that (still a long way to go with this) I was able to move earlier, get in position earlier and play the ball in front of me rather than what I was doing at the start of the night which was "reacting" or "guessing" and going sideways backwards and almost having to reach behind me which often resulted in me leaning back, weight wrong and scooping the ball back off balance. Trying to be aware and recognise when my opponent would switch also helped me concentrate in the rally - something I have a problem with as my mind can wander or switch off even when I'm playing.

As for this being the right place to post on this, I don't know Yuzuki. On the one hand the vids of the Indian Team practicing drills / random elements ties in, on the other this part of the discussion could now move/continue in to the coaching section.

I spent quite a few hours editing the film down into 8 videos. I was also conscious of knowing who was who when I did the filming so it kinda became engrained in my head.

Oh yeah, and I kept a programme from the actual match against England which has all he players names and a photograph in

Smart man!

Still sharing the virtues of rote&random training to the kids...haven't converted them. People in my age group are willing, though. A couple of old-timer coaches...they like it too.
