I watched Guo live in Baltimore in 1992 (or may be 1993, that's 10 years after his retirement) in the US Open. He won his first 2 rounds by toying with some of the younger European players who were in the top 50. Then he lost to Chen LongCan in 5 close games. It just proves that Guo was still very competitive.

Guo is one of the best of his generation. But we can not compare him to the modern game with players like Ma Long, Ma Lin, Zhang Jike, Wang Hao, etc... Especially, Ma Long, Zhang Jike, and Wang Hao who are very strong on both wings.

Waldner and Persson learnt to adjust with the times and I guess Guo could have also. I don't see any reason why he couldn't have developed an RPB (everyone else seems to be able to :) ) and if he did he would presumably be competitive with the modern players - amongst other things he had a helluva FH loop.

Richard Bergmann - 4 men's singles world champion titles, and three miscellaneous world champion titles. He's got everyone on the list beaten.

CHEERS!

For me, it has to be Werner Schlager, 2003 World Champion. He is the only European world champion since the beginning of the decade and in my opinion, the last! He took out Ma Lin, Kong Linghui and WLQ in semis, (and they were all in their prime!) and in the finals he won against Joo Se Hyuk who wasnt well known at the time (rank 61) but was just as good as he is now. Amazing accomplishment.

Most entertaining? It has to be Koji Matsushita, he makes the game look so much more enjoyable to watch.

I think I likes Joo the much, but my greatest player is Ryu Seung Min.

He has:

the Greatest footwork ever
A classic table tennis style
one hell of a forehand
a great smile

Besides that he won the olympics as a Korean when the Chinese were on their best: Wang Hao, Wang Liqin, Ma Lin!
