Post subject:  Forehand Drive technique for beginners

I've made a coaching video for the first time in years with Jim Clegg which I'd like to share about how to perform a forehand drive for beginners.

Some will see it as controversial, or old school, particularly bat arm angle, wrist etc and how far you take the bat back.

Please just remember who the target audience is, the reasons Jim gives for what he says and that this is not a loop, it's a forehand drive close to the table.

Thanks

This type of old school low spin drive is the basic stroke Korean coaches make you do 1000 of in a row high speed close to table before they progress you to other phases. If anything, Koreans are even more keen on the importance of this shot than this coach on this shot.

I like the uniforms, I wear both jerseys.

Coaches disagree on all kinds of things especially good coaches. I like the video a lot.

Videos are good - yes coaches can disagree, but it's fine details usually, and my view is get people hitting balls, some basic / solid technique and make tweaks on their journey if required (after all they / we play for many different reasons...). Developers can take their own responsibility eventually - and besides, look at all the top players - you will see many different styles and techniques on show - all they way down to local league!

I will post a link to some written information, as we all learn in different ways, so this is another option:

Why teach a technique that I believe that no current pro uses? I have seen videos of very young chinese players doing this stroke and it is not like you teach at all. I remember 30 years ago in tennis ages ago many tennis coaches were teaching a forehand method that pros at that time did not use at all too.
