I played John again today in the second round of matches, but this time managed to win 3-1 in four tight games.

Yes, short and long, twiddling, but predominantly he used the short on his f/hand and the long on his b/hand. Its his hitting that is hard to deal with, you have to get him off the table chopping and keep him there.

You ought to video one of those matches. It would be awesome to see you two guys go at it!

I would love to have had it filmed yesterday, especially as I won!

I have no camera though, only my phone, and nowhere to place it.

Having played John last week, I know how Dvoracek felt!

Part two is there if you look.....

I know a guy who loops like that... He has this old DARKER blade with stiga innova and tibhar superdefence 40, he loops with a chicken-flap stroke and he chops too.

Its time for another trek under john, mike has purchased another costly level, sure he will give you a chance to remain once more. Your other more youthful companion from Manchester turned out once more, around four years prior

Joined the forum yesterday, as an Englishman, now living in Missouri, USA.
I realise I'm a tad late on this thread (!), but if I could just say that it was great to watch some old footage of John Hilton. I played against him a few times, at Manchester YMCA, the last time being a week before he left for Berne....
His mastery of that bat (I sneaked a quick mess around with it, when he left it on the table once) was freakish. I've never felt so foolish, as I did trying to read it during a game!
I followed his progress in Switzerland, through the only place I could find that published daily results, and that was the Daily Express sports results section. It was a tiny line, at the bottom, that kept me transfixed, day after day. His triumph is surely one of England's greatest-ever sports stories.
