I played John again today in the second round of matches, but this time managed to win 3-1 in four tight games. |

I would love to have had it filmed yesterday, especially as I won! I have no camera though, only my phone, and nowhere to place it. |

Its time for another trek under john, mike has purchased another costly level, sure he will give you a chance to remain once more. Your other more youthful companion from Manchester turned out once more, around four years prior |

Joined the forum yesterday, as an Englishman, now living in Missouri, USA. I realise I'm a tad late on this thread (!), but if I could just say that it was great to watch some old footage of John Hilton. I played against him a few times, at Manchester YMCA, the last time being a week before he left for Berne.... His mastery of that bat (I sneaked a quick mess around with it, when he left it on the table once) was freakish. I've never felt so foolish, as I did trying to read it during a game! I followed his progress in Switzerland, through the only place I could find that published daily results, and that was the Daily Express sports results section. It was a tiny line, at the bottom, that kept me transfixed, day after day. His triumph is surely one of England's greatest-ever sports stories. |
